Happy International Yoga Day 2021(Yoga: A tryst with your soul)

Yoga is the journey of the self, through the self, to the self“. –The Bhagavad Gita

With the world coming to a hiatus owing to the pandemic, well-being has become the quintessential tool for a well-balanced life. Yoga is one form of lifestyle that is essential for holistic wellness. Yoga finds its root in the ancient Indian tradition and it is a Sanskrit word meaning ‘Union’, alluding to the union of soul and the body. The history of yoga can be traced back to Lord Shiva and he is believed to be the first yogi. Yoga is believed to have many benefits including increased immunity, a tranquil state of mind, low levels of stress and anxiety, low visceral fat, and a lot more. Although yoga has been an integral part of our rich ethos, the popularity, and benefits of this lifestyle were brought to light a couple of decades back.

Yoga is an amalgamation of bodily movements with extra heed paid to breathing patterns and postures or asanas. Yoga has multiple benefits owing to which it has become the latest fitness trend all across the globe. The main benefit of this form of exercise is a toned body, loss of visceral fat, and improved peace of mind. Meditation is a key component of yoga and studies have shown that people who practice yoga have improved memory, motor skills, etc. which keeps ailments at bay. However, it is important to note that yoga is not merely limited to the bodily or materialist realm, but instead, it transcends this realm. Yoga is a beautiful journey that helps establish a spiritual connection with our inner self, which is much more than what we perceive.

To commemorate this ancient science, every year on 21st June, the world celebrates International Yoga Day. This is also known as Yoga Day, World Yoga Day, International Yoga Day, UN International Yoga Day. June 21st is the summer solstice in the northern hemisphere and as per ancient sciences, it has a lot of significance in health and wellness. The day is celebrated with fanfare all across the globe as people of different age groups, ethnicity, place of origin, etc. come together and perform some yoga asanas. The main objective of this day is to spread awareness across the globe about the benefits of yoga.
